We live in a digital world. Some of us like it while others don't, and still, some of us find ourselves questioning how to function within it without losing our sanity.
I am one of those individuals. I continually question whether or not I have too many apps on my iPhone and iPad. When I periodically review the multitude of icons on my iPhone, I delete the ones I know I haven't accessed in a few months, knowing that should I need them again, they are only a few clicks away from reappearing.
When to simplify
Because you're one of my readers and your level of awareness is higher than most, ideally you'd have a regularly scheduled time to review your digital inventory and make some adjustments.
However, if that's not the case.... then here are some clear signs that you might need to assess your digital habits and assess what needs to change:
You have difficulty finding the app you need
You have more than one app for the same function
You feel stressed each time you view your home screen
You shop for new apps frequently
There comes a time when the technology we've chosen to make our lives easier actually complicates it. That's the clearestsign of all that you need to simplify your digital footprint.

Any of the following suggestions can help simplify your digital life:
Limit your open browser tabs to three at any given time
Use only one browser at a time
Use only one social media application/site at a time
Use a news aggregator app like Apple News or The Skim
Turn off your phone's on-screen notifications
Keep your phone on silent mode
Use collections/folders to hold icons with similar functions
Try limiting your phone's home screen to one or two apps
Use your phone in its black-and-white mode
Don't use your phone while eating alone or with others and ask others to do the same
Keep an offline log of your screen time and review it weekly
Try leaving your phone at home for a day
Consider getting a non-smartphone
Use your laptop's screen instead of the double display on your desk
Check email less often and exit the program each time
